Local Spot #7 – Glenwood Cemetary

I know – seems a strange place to think of going for a stroll.

The first time I took a light jog through the grounds of Picton’s gorgeous Glenwood Cemetary I wondered if I was being somehow sacrilegious. But then I saw the trail map at the entrance, and realized not only was it ok, it was welcomed! As long as you’re a respectful visitor πŸ™‚

Glenwood Cemetary and the trail that runs through it has become one of my all-time favourite County walks. A winding forest path connects the East & West sides.. and if you do a full loop – from the free parking lot at the end of Elizabeth Street and back – you end up with a nice 2.3km stroll. Finish it off with a picnic in Delhi Park and you’ve got the perfect way to spend an afternoon!

Local Spot #6 – Trent Port Marina

Good morning pals! Happy Saturday πŸ™‚

Last week I set out to find some trails that have less brush and leaf litter for ticks to hide in… and ended up coming back to a spot we started visiting in the winter!

The Trent Port Marina in Trenton is a great place to burn off some energy. With a long, paved trail winding around Bayshore Park – we can definitely get our 40 minutes of walking in here, no problem.

For the more adventurous – I was told that the trail extends all the way to Carrying Place! Benches & picnic tables are plentiful, with the park being a perfect spot for that game of fetch… plus it’s directly behind the Metro so you can grab groceries on the way home!

What are your favourite paved trails in and around PEC? Hit me up in the comments! And have a great weekend πŸ’•πŸΎπŸΆ

Local Spot #5 – Hanna Park

Hey pals! This weekend we hit up beautiful Hanna Park in Trenton! It’s a lovely 42-acre spot with two options for exercise.

Option one is the good-sized dog park, separated into two – one area is for pups & one area is for the bigger dogs! Which is nice if your fur baby is little and you need to work your way up to the main event πŸ™‚

Option two are the trails that wind through the woods behind. Thickly wooded and quite pretty, one of the main loops comes in at nearly 3.5km which is a decent 60 minute walk. Plenty of room for a picnic if you choose to make an afternoon of it! We opted for the trails and had a lovely midday, quick little getaway. πŸ™‚

Happy Monday!

Local Spot #4 – Downtown Wellington

You guys!! It really feels like we’re heading into spring. Who’s looking forward to no more -20 walks?! This girl! πŸ‘‹

The downside of warmer weather is of course, all the MUCK. I’ve started looking for pavement or sidewalks for our daily walks.. and one of the best spots I’ve found so far is downtown Wellington!

If you start at the far end of the strip, a good 2KM jaunt is possible.. and it’s great city training for my county pup who’s getting way too used to the quiet on our beach or trail hikes πŸ™‚ Added bonus – stores are open and you can stop for coffee along the way! I’ve been grabbing a latte from The Good Place and heading out from there.

What are your favourite β€œcity” walks.. or places to get that exercise when the muck is just too much?! Let me know in the comments below. And happy Sunday!! 🐾 🐢

Rollicking retreat to Roblin Lake

A few months ago I began my search for pup-friendly meetup places in the northwest corner of the County. List of requirements was short… 1 – the spot needed to have a fenced area where pups could play, and 2 – it had to be close enough to home that it wouldn’t be an afternoon trek to get there.

My husband and I had biked to Roblin Lake a few times this past summer, so I was a bit familiar with the location and decided to check it out with Bodhi. And what a spectacular little gem it is for dog lovers!

Located in the township of Ameliasburgh, this park has everything you’d want – tons of room to roam for hikes or walks, a small, mostly-fenced area for pups to carouse, and the most serene of settings. Nestled beside – you guessed it, Roblin Lake.

A few fascinating facts – Roblin Lake is known as a “lake within a lake” – a pool left behind by the glaciers that was once connected to Lake Ontario. And it’s also home to Canadian poet Al Purdy’s A-frame log cabin.. although I haven’t spotted it yet πŸ™‚

At any rate, if you live in or are visiting Prince Edward County.. and you happen to be near Ameliasburgh – this lovely little spot is a sure bet for a perfect afternoon with your fine furry friend. One of our favourites!

Fresh and frosty hikes @ North Beach

Hey pup pals happy Monday!! Last week’s sunny weather had us spending a ton of time at beautiful North Beach. In fact, I think it takes the lead as my new favourite local spot for walks!

I’m a bit biased since it’s only 10 minutes down the road from us.. but the combination of sandy dunes, paved paths and hikeable trails really makes this a fantastic spot for pups. Everyone seems very conscientious about picking up their poop too which is much appreciated πŸ™‚ πŸ’©!

Campbell’s Orchards : a mid-winter’s dream

Last week’s big adventure was to the lovely Campbell’s Orchards! It was a pretty brisk -12 or so day.. but we braved the icy winds to get some much needed outside time.

Campbell’s is a true family business in every sense of the word, with the farm purchased in 1969 by John Campbell, and run today by his son Colin & family. On site you’ll find an adorable little farm market and cidery, with wonderfully well-kept (and pup friendly!) trails running through the apple orchards. I forgot to track just how far we hiked.. but I’m guessing a 2K jaunt is definitely possible here.

Added bonus… when the walk was done I ducked inside to grab some locally made staples (Cressy Mustard, farm fresh eggs) and a few bottles of delicious Apple Falls Cider πŸ˜‰ Oh and they have homemade dog treats too!!

Love this place and cannot WAIT to visit in the spring/summer πŸ™‚

What new adventures did you get up to with your pups last week?! Hit me up in the comments πŸ™‚ And stay warm!
